i work in natural resources, and we have a funny saying in our field that in order to better protect the resources, you have to get as far away from them as possible. i echoed that sentiment over the past few weeks, having spent inordinate amounts of time at my desk pushing paperwork. however, yesterday i had an hour out in the field, and how precious that felt.
after tending to business at one of my parks, i gave myself the gift of five minutes to wander up a creek. you know, like agent dale cooper says in twin peaks – every day, give yourself a present. i found this blissful pool and watched the reflections of the fallen leaves and the tree tops. i listened to the water trickle down a boulder. i picked up leaves and crumbled them in my palm. i even stuck out my tongue to taste the air.
